Xinjiang Medical University (XJMU, 新疆医科大学) is the leading medical university in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, co-constructed by the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission (NHC), and Xinjiang Regional Government. Founded in 1954 as one of the 156 key national construction projects of New China’s First Five-Year Plan, medical faculty from 15 provinces across Beijing, Shanghai, and Shandong moved to Urumqi to build this medical citadel.
