Tracing its inception to 1896 when Sichuan Governor Lu Chuanlin founded Sichuan Chinese and Western School by imperial decree, SCU consolidated Chengdu University of Science and Technology and West China University of Medical Sciences (华西医科大学, est. 1910) in 1994 and 2000.
