Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE, 上海对外经贸大学) was established in 1960 as Shanghai Foreign Trade Institute under the Ministry of Foreign Trade (now Ministry of Commerce). It was one of only two undergraduate institutions established by New China’s foreign trade ministry, celebrated as the premier "Cradle of China's International Trade Talents."
Operating Gubei and Songjiang campuses over 1,000 mu, SUIBE was selected in 2009 as China’s first and the world’s first batch of WTO Chairs, and became the sole WTO Regional Training Partner in mainland China in 2019. Academic strengths center on International Economics & Trade, International Law, Finance, and Foreign Languages. It operates the Shanghai Institute of Global Trade and Economy and national simulated WTO dispute negotiation chambers.
