China Three Gorges University (CTGU, 三峡大学) was established in 2000 through the merger of Gezhouba Hydroelectric Engineering College (est. 1978 under the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power) and Hubei Sanxia College (est. 1923). Situated in Yichang, Hubei—the world capital of hydropower engineering and home of the Three Gorges Dam—CTGU is co-constructed by the Ministry of Water Resources and the Hubei Provincial People's Government.
Covering more than 3,000 mu along the Yangtze River gorges, CTGU excels in Hydropower Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Power Automation, and Clinical Medicine. Engineering, Chemistry, and Clinical Medicine rank in the global top 1% of ESI. CTGU hosts the National Field Scientific Observation Station for Sanxia Landslides and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Geological Hazards in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area.
