Chang'an University (长安大学) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, co-built with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and the Shaanxi Provincial Government. A charter member of "Project 211", the "985 Innovation Platform", and "Double First-Class" initiatives, Chang'an University was formed in 2000 through the historic merger of Xi'an Highway Transportation University (est. 1951), Xi'an Engineering Institute, and Northwest Institute of Architectural Engineering.
Situated in the ancient imperial capital of Xi'an across 3,745 mu, the university features the world’s only comprehensive automobile test track built on a university campus and the State Key Laboratory of Road Engineering in Special Areas. Transportation Engineering is officially designated as a national Double First-Class discipline, with 9 disciplines ranking in the global top 1% of ESI (Engineering in the top 1‰).
Having enrolled international students since 1956, Chang'an University has trained transportation ministers and infrastructure leaders for over 100 countries, offering fully English-taught Civil Engineering and Logistics degrees supported by CSC Type B Silk Road Fellowships.
